As many of you know, I have been working with the Ugandan Water Project (UWP) for many years and this year did a big fundraiser with my students at McDonogh. We taught them a bunch of lessons that we developed to connect what they learn in the classroom to the real-world problem of the global water crisis, and then kicked off the fundraiser so they could use what they learned to help make a difference. They ended up raising over $10,000 and funded three tanks!
The global water crisis is a big deal and there are millions of people who have to walk 2-3 miles twice a day just to get water to use for cooking, bathing, and drinking. Often, the water they get is dirty and filled with disease. It’s horrible. These water tanks use a roof-gutter system to collect rainwater and with the Sawyer water filter attached, it is more pure than a lot of tap water in the US!
Here is a 3-minutevideo you can watch that it will give you a better picture of the impact of the UWP. This is an amazing organization who uses their funds very efficiently.
This summer, I’m going to Uganda for two weeks (and my parents are coming too!!!) on a missions service trip with the UWP to visit my school’s rainwater tanks, do some tank inspection work for recently installed projects, and help identify potential new tank sites.
I have been preparing and saving for this trip for a couple years and have $1,000 to go toward it. I am fundraising for the remaining cost of $2,500 (the first $1,000 due by May 15 – very soon – and the rest by June 15) to cover expenses for airfare, lodging, transportation, and meals as well as for programs we will be leading for the local churches and clinics while there. Will you partner with me financially?
Together with my parents, we are fundraising for a rainwater tank (cost = $3,600) and we would love for you to join us! These tanks are truly life-saving and the cost covers the tank, installation, and filtration system. Our goal is to raise the tank money by June 15.
Specifically, I am asking for donations of $50 to $100. Certainly, any amount will be a blessing and greatly appreciated! Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online (here) putting “Lizza” in the note, or by mailing a check, with Lizza in the memo, made out to Ugandan Water Project and sent to: 2648 Rabbit Run Bloomfield, NY 14469. If you send in a donation with my name on it, the first $2,500 given will go toward my trip and everything else to the tank.
Thank you for being a part of these projects and this important work!
